Based on a proposal focused on higher education courses implementation directed to consolidation of sustainability emerging paradigm, aiming at their integration into the regional context, the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) established, in 2010, a campus in the municipality of São Lourenço do Sul-RS. In the same year, was also deployed the course of Technology and Environmental Management and, in 2014, started the activities the course of Agroecology and degree in Rural Education.

In the initial proposition of Agroecology course, includes the implementation of a Natural Resources Laboratory to shelter the specific disciplines activities of campus courses. Thus, in 2016, with the expansion of the physical campus space arose the Natural Resources Laboratory (LARN).

Thus, the LARN arises under an interdisciplinary design in order to consider the complexities of soil, plants, animals and atmosphere. This perception seeks to understand and explain how these elements are interrelated, making us able to develop management strategies to ensure sustainable food production and reduction of environmental anthropogenic impact.

In addition, the space is intended for scientific research activities, support to diverse disciplines and conducting projects of research, teaching and extension with the participation of undergraduate and graduate students.
